Our Work by Client
Midrand, Gauteng
Scope
CT Communications designed and installed a full passive and active DAS covering this major Midrand shopping centre's 131,000 square metre retail floor, including all basement parking levels, anchor store corridors, and the central atrium. The project involved laying a fiber backbone from a centralised head-end equipment room to 14 remote antenna units distributed across the complex, with a passive coaxial distribution layer extending coverage into the deepest below-grade parking sections that previous antenna surveys had identified as persistent dead zones.
Results
Post-installation testing confirmed signal levels meeting all four major South African mobile network operator acceptance criteria on every measured floor and basement level. The centre's facilities team reported an immediate reduction in tenant connectivity complaints, and the cellular DAS infrastructure formed the foundation for a subsequent building management system upgrade that required reliable in-building network coverage as a prerequisite.
Fourways, Gauteng
Scope
CT Communications replaced the aging copper backbone at this major Fourways shopping centre with a new single-mode fiber distribution network connecting the centre management office, all major plant rooms, tenant communication rooms on each level, and the security and CCTV control room. The project required routing new fiber through occupied service corridors and riser shafts without disruption to the 300-plus trading tenants, and was executed in four phases scheduled across six weeks of after-hours work.
Results
The new fiber backbone delivered a tenfold increase in available bandwidth for tenant services and centre management systems, and the structured cabling documentation produced during the project gave the facilities team a current and accurate record of all active network paths for the first time in the building's history. A preventive maintenance contract established at project completion has maintained the fiber plant in verified condition since installation.
Pretoria, Gauteng
Scope
CT Communications was contracted to install base transceiver station infrastructure on a premier Pretoria shopping centre rooftop to support a major mobile network operator's coverage expansion into the Menlyn node. The project included rooftop antenna mast installation, feeder cable routing from the rooftop through the building's riser system to the equipment room, power and earthing infrastructure for the base station, and integration of a new in-building DAS feed from the rooftop BTS to serve the centre's internal coverage requirements.
Results
The installation passed the operator's full site acceptance test on the first attempt, with antenna alignment verified against the agreed azimuth and tilt specifications and feeder insertion loss within 0.5 dB of the link budget model. The combined rooftop-to-indoor signal path resolved a coverage gap that had affected the node for two years prior to the installation, improving outdoor and in-building signal quality for thousands of daily visitors to the centre.
Mbombela, Mpumalanga
Scope
CT Communications installed an outdoor DAS system covering Mbombela Stadium's seating bowl, hospitality suites, and concourse areas to address severe cellular congestion experienced during high-attendance fixtures. The design placed directional panel antennas at calculated intervals beneath the stadium's roof canopy to direct signal downward into the seating terraces, supplemented by omnidirectional nodes in enclosed concourse areas where the rooftop antennas could not achieve adequate coverage. A fiber backbone connected all antenna nodes to a central equipment room housing the DAS head-end and operator-provided signal sources.
Results
Event-day testing conducted during a sold-out fixture demonstrated consistent 4G LTE service availability throughout the seating bowl, with download speeds measured at spectator level supporting simultaneous video streaming from multiple test devices per antenna sector. The stadium's operations team reported improved staff radio and data communication during events as a secondary benefit of the enhanced in-venue network infrastructure.
George, Western Cape
Scope
CT Communications performed a full fiber termination and certification project for a coastal Western Cape shopping centre's newly installed fiber backbone, which had been partially completed by a previous contractor before that engagement ended. The scope involved inspecting all existing cable pulls for route compliance and physical condition, re-terminating connector assemblies that did not meet the specified insertion loss standards, completing outstanding splice closures on the outdoor sections of the plant, and conducting a full OTDR certification sweep across all fiber spans to produce a baseline record for future maintenance reference.
Results
OTDR testing post-completion confirmed all fiber spans within the specified insertion loss budget, with 100% of connector end-faces passing IEC 61300-3-35 inspection criteria. The certification documentation package produced gave the centre's new facilities management team a reliable baseline against which future maintenance measurements can be compared, replacing the absence of any verifiable records from the original incomplete installation.
Highveld, Gauteng
Scope
CT Communications was engaged to diagnose and remediate a persistent network instability issue affecting a Highveld region shopping centre's centre management network that had produced intermittent outages for several months without a confirmed root cause. The investigation identified a combination of failed surge protection components on the main distribution frame, a degraded fiber splice in the riser serving the first-floor communication room, and a managed switch with a faulty power supply that was cycling under load. All three faults were repaired and the full network plant was retested to confirm stability.
Results
Following the combined equipment repairs and infrastructure remediation, the centre's network operated without a single unplanned outage in the subsequent 90-day observation period, ending a pattern of weekly incidents that had required after-hours call-outs from the centre's IT support provider. The post-repair maintenance contract established a structured quarterly inspection schedule to prevent similar cumulative degradation from developing undetected in future.
Midrand, Gauteng
Scope
CT Communications provided field testing and technical assessment services for a leading global telecoms equipment OEM on a batch of DAS passive components and coaxial cable assemblies that required independent verification of RF performance specifications before deployment on a major operator network rollout. The testing program covered passive splitter and combiner insertion loss and port-to-port isolation measurements, coaxial cable assembly return loss and insertion loss verification, and connector torque and weatherproofing inspection on all outdoor-rated assemblies.
Results
CT Communications completed testing on the full equipment batch within the agreed three-week turnaround, with all non-conforming items clearly identified and documented against the relevant test parameters and specifications. The structured test report provided the client with defensible technical evidence for supplier warranty claims on failed components, and the testing methodology was adopted as the standard acceptance procedure for subsequent equipment batches in the rollout program.
